Nagaland captain Rongsen Jonathan had scored his maiden List-A century in a Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 match against Manipur – in his team's second domestic season ever, but he now feels robbed with the fact that his century is no longer valid in the record books as BCCI deemed it invalid.

Scoring century at any level is always a special thing for any batsman, as he put his all efforts to make fans applaud for him, but Jonathan’s achievement did not last long, as BCCI decided to deem the century invalid by rescheduling the fixture against Manipur.

Owing to harsh weather conditions, the BCCI not only rescheduled that match of September 24, but also many other matches were rescheduled across Groups A, B, and the Plate group.

Nagaland have had three washouts so far in the tournament, while the team’s match against Manipur is scheduled to be replayed on October 17.

Jonathan told ESPNcricinfo on Tuesday, “Hurt, upset, annoyed, robbed. Nearly 60% of the match was completed. I understand the decision to reschedule matches is taken while keeping the bigger picture in mind, but why should players be robbed of their records just because a result wasn’t possible?”

He further added, “As players, we work hard, train all year round and, in the first match of the season, if somebody scores runs and it goes as a blank in his record, he is bound to feel hurt.”

The batsman also sought a clarification from BCCI regarding the same. He added: “I wrote to the BCCI, I asked for a clarification from Saba Karim [the BCCI’s general manager, cricket operations], but I haven’t received a response. It’s upsetting for individuals. It hurts all the more because cricketers from the north-east [of India] have so much going against them.”

Jonathan signed off by saying, “When somebody in the local media reads about a century or a five-wicket haul, it really inspires young kids and more people to the game. But now when you have nothing to show, there’s little we can do.”
