Steve Smith and David Warner are all set to make their long-awaited return to First-Class cricket in Australia, as the two will be seen in the Sheffield Shield action for New South Wales on Thursday (October 10) after nearly two years.

The NSW will kickstart their 2019-20 Sheffield Shield campaign against Queensland at the Gabba on Thursday – which will be their first appearance in the Shield arena for the first time since November 2017.

Warner and Smith had to miss the last season of the Shield after suspended for 12 months for their role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in March 2018. Having returned to the international arena this summer, the two have been on Monday (October 7) named in NSW squad for the first round of the 2019-20 season of the Sheffield Shield.

Smith and Warner could be seen in action for NSW in the first of four Shield rounds before Australia's opening Domain Test against Pakistan on November 21. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon have all been rested following the grueling England tour for the season opener against the Bulls on Thursday.

On the other hand, Mitchell Starc will be another high-profile name along with Warner and Smith in the NSW squad, while Test aspirant Kurtis Patterson will also miss the season opener against Queensland.

NSW squad:
Peter Nevill (c), Sean Abbott, Nick Bertus, Harry Conway, Trent Copeland, Liam Hatcher, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Nick Larkin, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner
