Manan Vohra opens up about his setbacks and future after shifting base to Chandigarh

Vohra moved out from Punjab to Chandigarh ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.

Manan Vohra is one of the players to watch out for in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019 after shifting his base to Chandigarh from Punjab.

Once compared with the legendary Virender Sehwag for his dazzling strokeplay, Vohra will lead the newly affiliated team in the domestic 50-over tournament.

Moving out from Punjab was a tough decision for Vohra but it was a sensible one as the stylish right-hander wasn’t getting a regular chance in the side with the emergence of Shubman Gill and Anmolpreet Singh. In fact, he was dropped from the last Ranji season.

"What can I say about the last two most difficult years. I was neither playing regular cricket nor able to convert 20s and 30s (into big scores). Destiny plays a part in life," Vohra said in an exclusive chat with TOI.

Reflecting on his unfulfilled career thus far, the 26-year-old added it wasn't expectations that unsettled him.

"I was even compared to Virender Sehwag. I opened with him in the IPL for Kings XI and outscored him in a couple of matches. But I failed to grab all my chances. Every player has this fear of failure, even the greats I shared the dressing rooms with in the IPL and Punjab Ranji squad."

Sharing his experience with the Punjab side, Vohra said: "I will cherish the sweet memories of playing for Punjab. Yuvi Paaji and Bhajju Paaji were a big help and motivation throughout the journey."

However, he is now focusing on the job at hands – which is to take Chandigarh from the plate group to the elite category.

"I believe in god. I don't know what the future holds but I know who holds the future. It's my job to score big runs and pull Chandigarh into the elite group."

"Yes, it is not going to be easy. But the team has jelled up nicely under V R V Paaji and I am excited to take the field for Chandigarh," Vohra remarked.

Chandigarh will start their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019 campaign against Uttarakhand on September 25.
