Kent’s Darren Stevens became the oldest cricketer to score a first-class double century since Walter Keeton in 1949. The right-hand batsman scored a career-best 237 runs off 225 deliveries which included 28 boundaries and 9 sixes.
The 43-year-old along with Sam Billings put on a superb 346-run partnership for the sixth wicket and saved the day as they took Kent from 39-5 to 482-8. The Leicester born batsman was finally dismissed by New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel in the 75th over of the innings.
The all-rounder has been in good form of late. He scored 88 runs in the previous match and picked up two fifers with the ball, one in each innings against Nottinghamshire.
