West Indies legend Alvin Kallicharan to mentor Puducherry for 2019/20 domestic season

Legendary West Indies cricketer Alvin Kallicharan has been named as mentor of Puducherry’s men’s and women’s cricket teams across the formats for the upcoming domestic season by Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) on Wednesday, 21st August.

While the former Karnataka batsman J Arun Kumar has been appointed head coach of the side, the CAP official also confirmed that D Rohit will lead the side in all formats of the game.

The official also announced that Indian paceman R Vinay Kumar, former Tamil Nadu batsman KB Arun Karthik and Himachal Pradesh's Paras Dogra will be part of the Puducherry squad as guest players for the upcoming domestic season.

Kallicharan, a stylish left-hander, represented West Indies in 66 Tests and 31 ODIs and was part of the inaugural ICC Cricket World Cup-winning squad in 1975.

A CAP official stated, “Kallicharan will mentor the men’s and women’s teams in all categories in Puducherry. His presence will inspire cricketers here and hope they will benefit by picking his brains. Vinay Kumar is set to join the Puducherry team after the conclusion of the Karnataka Premier League.”

Noteworthy, Puducherry side has arrived in Vizag to participate in the Vizzy Trophy to kick off preparations for the upcoming domestic season.
