Bengal captain and India batsman Manoj Tiwary has been looking for any opportunity to have a comeback into the Indian team. On August 6, he went on a Twitter spree after his name was missing from the Duleep Trophy squads that were announced recently.
He asked the selectors what is the criteria using which they are choosing players, given that he had scored runs by plenty, but still has been ignored repeatedly.
He wrote, "Since the Duleep trophy teams for the year 2018-2019 is out and I don’t see my name featuring in any of them. I want to ask the Selectors, what are the criteria for a player like me to get selected again in Duleep trophy teams or Indian team? If you guys can be kind enough to let me know?"
He highlighted the fact that he had scored buckets of runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy and yet the selectors have not reached out to him and mentioned, "Scored a double hundred against MP and a hundred against Punjab and both the teams had quality bowlers. I don’t want to put up my stats but I would request you all to just go and have a look please. Clarity is something which players looks for."
Manoj Tiwary’s career was plagued by injuries and bad form at the most inopportune time given that he played his last ODI for India in 2015 and last appeared in IPL in 2018 for King XI Punjab.
