Shubman Gill put on a show as he hit 268 while playing for Punjab against Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite Group ‘B’ match.

Gill’s herculean 328-ball effort was laced with 29 boundaries and 4 sixes and it powered Punjab to 473 for 6 at Lunch on Day 3 in reply to Tamil Nadu's first innings score of 215 in Mohali. With this knock, the 19-year-old also became the second Indian batsman after Rahul Dravid in Adelaide 2003 to remain not out on 199 at the end of a day's play in a first-class match.

Opening the innings, Gill added 107 runs with Jiwanjot Singh (33) and followed it with a 21-run partnership with Anmolpreet Singh (7). However, the partnership between Gill and skipper Mandeep Singh went from strength to strength and helped Punjab gain the ascendency. The duo stitched 190 runs for the third wicket with Mandeep scoring 50.

During the partnership, Gill kept hitting boundaries and was not afraid to hit the ball in the air while Mandeep overcame spells of slow scoring to keep the runs flowing. Bad light ended Gill’s quest for a maiden Ranji double ton on Day 2 itself.

However, he reached his double ton on Sunday and went on to score 268 before getting stumped by Dinesh Karthik off R Sai Kishore.
