Yuvraj Singh is making a big effort to get back into the contention for national team selection, but with no major cricket of any kind since he last played for India in June 2017, things were looking different for the southpaw.

However, he decided to play for Punjab in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2018-19 match against Delhi and it was sort of comeback for one of one of the biggest limited overs stars India has ever produced. Delhi had batted first and was rattled by Siddharth Kaul’s 6/32 and bowled out for a paltry 107.

The Feroz Shah was buzzing on Wednesday to see Yuvraj bat after 408 days of absence from the field.

He came in at 38/2 and struggled to find any rhythm straight away. He tried his best to get off the mark, but it took him a paddle sweep off the 29th ball he faced to get off the mark. The entire stadium elated with joy to see the Indian all-rounder score his first run after such a long break. The shot went for a boundary to the joy of the fans.

Yuvraj added 70 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Mandeep Singh, but his contribution was only 24 runs off 88 balls with 4 fours and he was dismissed by Pulkit Narang, caught by Varun Sood leaving Punjab on 168/4.

However, Mandeep Singh’s 90 helped Punjab to 282 runs, with a lead of 175. For Delhi, Simarjeet Singh (4/43) and Vikar Mishra (4/57) were the picks of the bowlers.
