Ranji Trophy 2018-19: J&K quick bowler Mohammed Mudhasir scripts history in the tournament

He finished up with figures 5/90 in the first innings against Rajasthan.

Jammu and Kashmir bowler fast bowler Mohammed Mudhasir wrote a new chapter in the history of cricket by claiming the first hat-trick of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2018-19 on day-2 of the Elite group-C match against Rajasthan at the SMS Stadium on Friday (November 2).

With trapping Chetan Bist, Tajinder Singh Dhillon, Rahul Chahar, and Tanvir Mashart Ul-Haq in four successive balls, the 30-year-old pacer became the first bowler in professional cricket to dismiss four batsmen LBW in consecutive balls to finish off the entire middle order of Rajasthan.

Mudhasir also became the only the second player to take four wickets in four successive balls in Ranji Trophy history. Previously, Shankar Saini achieved the feat in 1988 while playing for Delhi in a match against Himachal Pradesh to become the first man to do so.

Meanwhile, Mudhasir is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir region to grab a hat-trick in the Ranji Trophy, he is the 77th bowler to take a hat-trick in the tournament.

Noteworthy, Rajasthan were at a stage to post mammoth first innings total but Mudhasir broke their momentum by taking four wickets in the 99th over to help J&K to bowl Rajasthan out for 379 from an overnight score of 300/3. He finished the innings with the figures of 5/90.
