Finding himself on the sidelines of India’s limited-overs setup, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is trying all the new tricks to put his case forward for the World Cup selection reckoning.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, Ashwin bowled the carrom ball with a different technique during the opening game of the Deodhar Trophy between India A and India B at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Tuesday.

“I have developed a couple of other deliveries. I don’t bowl the carom ball from the top, but from underneath. It doesn’t give a lot of trajectory to batsmen and skids through. I have also developed a few variations with normal off breaks,” Ashwin quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

When asked about his opinion on the hot debate whether SG ball should be replaced with Dukes world over, he said: “For a bowler, it’s not about the ball or the conditions. It’s about trying to adapt and understand the pace of the wicket. All I look forward is getting into rhythm.”

Ashwin, who is known to experiment with his variations, hasn’t featured in a limited-overs game for India since July 2017. Earlier this year, the Tamil Nadu offie was seen displaying his leg-spin skills during the Iran Cup match between Rest of India and Vidarbha. In fact, Ashwin extended his leg-spin ploy to the IPL 2018 while leading Kings XI Punjab.

However, considering the dominance of wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in India’s ODI triumph lately, things look rather bleak for Ashwin in the next year’s World Cup in England.

Ashwin also admitted the supremacy of both the wrist spinners and hailed their showing in white-ball over the last one year.

“They have done incredibly well. Kuldeep has got all the variations. Players are finding it very hard to pick him. The biggest challenge for a bowler is when batsmen start to pick him. Both of them have enough skills to represent India for a long time. India’s spin cupboard is pretty healthy,” he concluded.
