Rohit Sharma didn’t have the best of time with the willow as left-arm spinner Mehdi Hasan removed for 17 during the first semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 between Mumbai and Hyderabad in Bengaluru. However, Rohit was at the top of his game on the field.

Sharma, who will resume national duty when the ODI series starts against the Windies from October 21, plucked a stunner to get rid of left-handed batsman Bavanaka Sandeep. Rohit was stationed at first slip when a ball came dipping towards him and he displayed remarkable reflexes to hold it.

The incident took place during the 19th over of Hyderabad innings when Bavanaka tried to cut a short delivery off Shams Mulani behind square. Unfortunately, the southpaw edged it to the slip cordon. Although the catch looked clean to the naked eye, it was referred upstairs to eradicate the possibility of a wrong decision.

After examining the footage repeatedly, third umpire Tapan Sharma eventually gave it out and Bavanaka Sandeep had to walk back to the pavilion for 29.

Here’s the video:

Coming to the match, Hyderabad rode on Rohit Rayudu’s 121 to put 246/8 in 50 overs. In reply, Mumbai are currently 155/2 as the rain halted play after 25 overs.

The second Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final will be played between Delhi and Jharkhand on October 18. The final will take place on October 20.
