Ambati Rayudu has opted out of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He won't be playing for his domestic side Hyderabad. Rayudu recently had a very good Asia Cup where he added 165 runs with a couple of the fifties -- 60 vs Hong Kong and 57 vs Afghanistan. He would have played for India against England in the limited-overs series but a failure in Yo-Yo Test didn't help him.

Sheh Narayan, the Hyderabad Cricket Association secretary spoke about the absence of Rayudu from the tournament this year.

“Rayudu has not got in touch with us about the reasons about his absence. Maybe he has informed the selectors or the Committee of Administrators. At the start of the season we had appointed him captain for all forms but strangely he had decided to stay away from the group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy,” the official said.

However, a Hyderabad chief selector Noel David said that Rayudu had apparently told the association about his desire to take rest and the selectors have obliged. Noel also said that Rayudu is fit and gearing up to play the knockout stages that start from October 14.
