Jharkhand pacer Varun Aaron is looking to make a comeback into the Indian side. He claims of being a different bowler now, than what he was earlier. Aaron says he not only has pace but the varieties too which could be a lethal combination.
Recently, in a chat with Sportstar, the 28-year-old who played 9 Tests and 9 ODIs each for India said he wants to win Vijay Hazare trophy for Jharkhand.
“Yes, it has been good and I am delighted to be bowling again with my old mate Rahul Shukla. We not just want to qualify but aim to win the competition,” he said.
Aaron finds it helpful in training in the MRF pace foundation. He often goes there to train. “The Jharkhand team trained at MRF for a week before the tournament. And on days I don’t have a match, I go there to train. MRF is my second home,” he said.
Varun has been bothered by injuries more often. But he believes it won't be the problem now. The pacer said, “I bring 150 kmph to the table. I have more variety now.”
Back in 2016, Glenn McGrath had spoken on his chances for the Indian cricket team. He was surprised after not finding his name in the Indian side.
“He clocks 150kmph regularly and he is a genuine fast bowler. He swings the ball well. He is the guy that India can use better. When he gets another chance, I hope it happens. I hate to see a bowler cutting down on pace to have a better control. I would rather prefer to see them work harder in the nets. Aaron is definitely not going to slow down,” said the Australian
Aaron has spent time playing English county for Leicestershire and he said the experience helped him become a mature bowler. “The experience matured me as a bowler. You travel so much, play in different cities, have to adapt.”
As the time changes, players have to adjust as well and Aaron is trying the same. “I bowl the leg-cutter and the slower one better now. Previously, I largely used to swing the ball away, now I bring it in too.”
He doesn't want to give up, he said, “I wouldn’t be playing cricket if I had given up hopes of playing for India.”
