Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is going through a rough patch in his career. The wicket-keeper batsman has failed with the bat this year. his inability to score runs down the order and was castigated for the same. The fact that his strike rate (67.36) this year has been the lowest in his career till now shows the struggle.

Recently, Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer had advised Dhoni to play domestic cricket as he hasn't been a part of all three formats and India is currently playing Test cricket against West Indies.

But despite having time and no issue of fatigue or fitness, Dhoni is giving a miss to the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 37-year-old last played for Jharkhand, his state team, in 2017.

In Asia Cup, he could only score 77 runs in the whole tournament without a single six. He needs to work on his batting before India tours Australia. Rishabh Pant is ready to replace the veteran Indian batsman.

“Dhoni has been training with the team since September and has been involved in all aspects of the game. He has been playing the role of mentor. It hardly matters if a player of his stature takes part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy," Jharkhand Cricket Association secretary Debasish Chakraborty told Mirror.
