Veteran India batsman Yuvraj Singh registered his first significant score in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy for Punjab against the Railways at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Yuvraj played a gritty knock of 96 runs in 121 balls to help Punjab pile up 284/6 in 50 overs. His innings was laced with 6 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Yuvi along with Gurkeerat Singh Mann put on a terrific 144-run stand for the fourth wicket to bail Punjab out of trouble after they slumped from 48/0 to 96/3. Gurkeerat also looked in full flow as he notched up his third List A ton (101) off 96 deliveries. The 28-year-old all-rounder struck 5 fours and 4 sixes in his innings.

Before this knock, Yuvraj has failed to hit a fifty in the four innings of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018/19. While the southpaw has scored 48 against Himachal Pradesh and 41 against Vidarbha, he has registered the scores of 6 and 26 against Maharashtra and Mumbai respectively.

This innings will certainly give Yuvraj some confidence to come up with even better performances and present a case for selection in the national squad.

Brief scores:

Punjab – 284/6 in 50 overs (Gurkeerat Singh Mann 101; Yuvraj Singh 96) versus Railways (Chandrakant Sakure 3/85)
