Mandeep Singh has been appointed as Punjab’s captain for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19. All-rounder Gurkeerat Singh Mann will act as Mandeep’s deputy in the squad comprised of Manan Vohra, Gitansh Khera, Anmolpreet Singh among others.

Mandeep replaced Harbhajan Singh as Punjab's captain, who has not been named in the team. Mandeep’s appointment as a captain is surprising for many since the veteran Yuvraj Singh is part of the squad.

The 16-member squad also includes the Under-19 World Cup winners Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh. While Gill has already played for India A and represented KKR in IPL 2018, Abhishek made his debut for Punjab last season and also played three IPL contests for Delhi Daredevils this season. Arshdeep is yet to make his debut in senior cricket.

Siddarth Kaul, who is currently in UAE with India’s Asia Cup squad as a net bowler, will spearhead Punjab’s pace attack in the company of Manpreet Singh Goni and Barinder Sran.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19 is also a perfect platform for Yuvraj to come up with performances and present a case for selection in the national squad.

Punjab will begin their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign against Himachal Pradesh on September 19.
