Ajinkya Rahane to lead Mumbai in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy

Shreyas Iyer has been named as Rahane’s deputy for the limited-overs tournament.

India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday (September 13) was named the captain of Mumbai team for the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Swashbuckling batsman Shreyas Iyer has been named as Rahane’s deputy for the limited-overs tournament. Both Rahane and Iyer have been snubbed from India’s 16-member Asia Cup squad.

Young opener Prithvi Shaw, who was recently picked in the Indian Test squad for the fourth and fifth Tests against England but did not get a game, is also part of the squad.

The 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw, who led India to U-19 World Cup title earlier this year, is also part of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.

Mumbai, who are placed in Elite Group A, begin their campaign against Baroda in Alur, near Bengaluru, on September 19 in the 50-over tournament.
