CWC 2019: I woke up wondering if it was a bad dream, says Kane Williamson after loss in final

New Zealand lost a heartbreaking final against England as the latter was crowned World Champions based on boundary count after the super over also resulted in a tie just like the 50-over game.

England won their maiden 50-over World Cup and made a hattrick of hosts winning the World Cup by following India in 2011 and Australia in 2015.

Many Kiwi players are yet to come to terms with this defeat, Kane Williamson is one of them as he thought it was a bad dream when he woke up the next day. Even though the Blackcaps were brilliant out in the middle, some umpiring blunders, a few bad moves, and some seriously bad fate cost them the match as the team ended on the losing side on a trot.

While talking to ESPNCricinfo, captain Kane compared the final to a ‘bad dream’ as he said, “I sort of explained it to a few people, it’s like sort of hits you in waves. You feel like, 10 minutes, you forget about it and then you make little jokes and then it comes back to you and you go… ‘that just happened’ and ‘did that just happen’. ‘Is that real’. I woke up wondering if it was just a bad dream and it wasn’t, was it?

The 28-year-old Auckland based all-rounder Jimmy Neesham also seemed absolutely dejected as he tweeted an emotional tweet which read, “Kids, don’t take up sport. Take up baking or something. Die at 60 really fat and happy.
