Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday (July 14) picked his playing XI of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and named five Indians in the team.

Tendulkar compiled his World Cup XI while speaking on the television show in Star Sports. He opted to go with Rohit Sharma and David Warner as his two openers. While Rohit is the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 648 runs from 9 innings with five centuries, Bairstow amassed 532 runs from 11 matches at 48.32 to help England win the title.

Sachin chose New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for the crucial No. 3 slot and also shouldered him with the responsibility to captain the side. It was a wise decision as Williamson led Black Caps to the final and amassed 578 runs in the tournament.

Virat Kohli was picked by Tendulkar to bat at No. 4 followed by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. The Indian captain made 443 runs in nine innings with five consecutive fifties in this World Cup, while Shakib was aggregated 606 runs and claimed 11 wickets.

Tendulkar’s primary bowling options are Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer whereas Ben Stokes and Hardik Pandya were selected as seam bowling all-rounders. Starc finished as the top wicket-taker in World Cup 2019 with 27 scalps. Archer is at second place with 20 wickets in his kitty while Bumrah took 18 wickets in the quadrennial event.

The surprise inclusion in Tendulkar's team is Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who featured in only two matches during the World Cup. Jadeja, however, proved his mettle with both bat and ball in the semi-final against New Zealand despite India’s 18-run defeat.
