India all-rounder Vijay Shankar is set to go through tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to assess his toe injury, which ruled him out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 earlier this month.

Shankar was hit on the left toe by a yorker from team-mate Jasprit Bumrah during the nets and suffered a non-displaced fracture. The injury cut short his participation in the quadrennial event, where India reached the semi-final before getting knocked out by New Zealand.

In three matches at the World Cup 2019, the 28-year-old Shankar registered the scores of 15*, 29 and 14 besides claiming wickets.

"I will be going to the NCA tomorrow and will have it (toe) assessed. I will get to know the extent of the injury in the next three-four days," Shankar said during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) Season-4 launch in Chennai on Saturday (July 13).

India-A commitments and injuries meant Vijay Shankar has not featured in any of the three editions of TNPL. But he is optimistic to make his debut this season.

"I hope to make my debut in the TNPL this year. I will hope to give my best to Chepauk Super Gillies if I get to play," the all-rounder said.

Asked about TNPL's progression, Shankar replied, "Every year TNPL has made an impact in domestic circles. It's a great platform for many cricketers."

"I think whoever did well [in TNPL] have been picked for Tamil Nadu and have made their mark in IPL (Indian Premier League) so it's a good platform. Washi (Washington Sundar), Varun Charkravarthy, Murugan Ashwin... these guys are bedded into the IPL. I wish more cricketers [from TNPL] go on to play in the IPL," he concluded.
