CWC 2019: Coach Trevor Bayliss to not renew his contract with England

England head coach Trevor Bayliss on Friday, 12th July, made it clear that he will quit the job once his running contract would end in September this year, saying he has no intentions to extend his role even if the Lions manage to win maiden World Cup 2019 title and Ashes 2019 as well.

Bayliss’ comment came after Eoin Morgan and his team reached the World Cup final after thrashing Australia in a thrilling semi-final by 8-wickets on Thursday, 11th July.

Since their heartbreaking World Cup exit in 2015, England has made remarkable turnaround especially in the white-ball cricket under Bayliss, but the Australian still believes the Lions will now need a fresh voice to take them another level.

Bayliss told BBC Radio, “I have always been a believer that four or five years is long enough, whether you are doing well or not. It is time for a new voice for the boys, to hopefully take them to another level.”

The coach was also hopeful that England will fulfill their dream to win their maiden title at home when they will take on New Zealand in the World Cup Final 2019 at Lord’s on Sunday, 14th July.

While urging his team to not be complacent with favorite’s tag, Bayliss said England have to put in their mind that they have not done anything special so far if they want to beat New Zealand.

He continued, “We had a chat in the changing room (at Edgbaston) afterward and realized we have not won anything yet. There is going to be a lot of noise around ‘you guys are the favorites’ -- we can’t listen to any of that. We have just got to concentrate on the way we have gone about our cricket over the past four years and what has got us to this point and go through our process.”

Bayliss signed off by saying, “Four years ago, after the last World Cup, which was not good for England, we set out and had planning to hopefully win the 2019 edition, and it feels great that now we have a chance to fulfill those dreams.”
