As England joined New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup title clash at Lord’s, Australia’s hopes for the sixth title has ended with their eight-wicket humiliation in the semi-final against the hosts on Thursday, 11th July, and Shane Warne was just disappointed with the result at Edgbaston.
It was only for the first time when England booked their place the World Cup final since 1992, thanks to Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid -whose stunning bowling helped the hosts to bowl the defending champions out for just 223 at Edgbaston.
Later, England chased down the target inside 32 overs with the help of cumulative efforts from Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, and Jonny Bairstow to take a step closer to their maiden World Cup title.
Following the massive defeat, Warne has admitted that the Lions have outplayed Australia in all facets, saying the Kangaroos could have got at least 250 scores to have any chances for the mega final on 14th July at Lord’s. He also lauded England’s all-round efforts against the Kangaroos.
Warne told Sky Sports, “I’m disappointed from a personal point of view. They were outplayed from the off. ‘The first ten overs were crucial and Australia were 27-3. They tried to recover; Carey showed guts and courage and Smith showed his class, that’s why he’s one of the best.”
He signed off by saying, “You thought if they could get 250, they might have a chance, but England showed their class. They were superb with bat and ball. To me they’re peaking at the right time, that’s what you need at World Cups. England were outstanding in all departments and outplayed Australia, simple as.”
