Steve Rhodes' tenure as Bangladesh's head coach has come to a premature end, as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to part ways with him after team’s World Cup 2019 exit.

Bangladesh cricket authorities on Monday, 8th July, announced the latest development after they finished their campaign in the World Cup eighth with only three wins in their eight matches here.

The BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told AFP, “We have decided to part ways with the head coach by mutual consent. The decision will be effective immediately.”

Rhodes, who had joined the Bangladesh set-up in June last year, was signed until the ICC World T20 in Australia next year, but his failure to give the team the expected results cost him his job.

The BCB also confirmed that coach Rhodes will not travel with the Tigers to Sri Lanka for the upcoming three matches one-day international series later this month.

Mr. Chowdhury signed off by saying, “The board had a review following the Pakistan match (Bangladesh's last at the World Cup) in a meeting in London. There it was decided that the BCB and Steve Rhodes will not continue on their agreement. The separation was by mutual consent. The BCB has not yet decided on a new coach for the Sri Lanka series, which is their next assignment.”
