Sri Lanka and India are facing each other in the second last league match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Headingley, Leeds on Saturday (July 6).

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a terrible start, losing their top four batsmen for just 55 runs. While Jasprit Bumrah removed both the openers, Dimuth Karunaratne (10) and Kusal Perera (18), Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya got rid of Kusal Mendis (3) and Avishka Fernando (20) respectively.

Afterwards, Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne took responsibility into their hands. The duo didn’t only bail Sri Lanka out of trouble but stitched 124 runs for the fifth wicket to put their team in a good position. Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Thirimanne for 68-ball 53.

Unperturbed by Thirimanne’s dismissal, Mathews continued his brilliance from one end. He added 74 runs off 63 balls for the sixth wicket with Dhananjaya de Silva to take Sri Lanka past the 250-run mark. In the process, Mathews also notched up his third ODI ton from 115 deliveries.

Bumrah dismissed Mathews in the second delivery of the penultimate over for 113 off 128 balls (10 fours and 2 sixes). In the last over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent Thisara Perera (2) packing and conceded just 7 runs as India eventually restricted Sri Lanka to 264/7.

Like always, Twitterverse was buzzing during the match with cricket experts sharing their thoughts.
