The 41st match of the ICC World Cup 2019 saw New Zealand take on hosts England in a match that was a must win for both teams. A loss here for England would have meant that they were nearly out of the race for semifinals.

England won the toss and chose to bat first on the pitch at the Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street. Jason Roy made 60 and added 123 runs with Jonny Bairstow, who slammed his second World Cup century in this edition. He made 106 with 15 fours and 1 six. Only Eoin Morgan made 42 after these two and this meant England managed 305/8. Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Jimmy Neesham picked two wickets each.

Henry Nicholls lost his wicket first ball for a duck to Woakes, while Archer had Guptill caught for 1. Williamson (27) and Taylor (28) tried to rebuild the innings but failed to do so as both were run out. Tom Latham (57) tried to salvage some face with the lower order but failed to do so with England picking wickets regularly.

Mark Wood picked 3/34, as New Zealand was bowled out for 186 runs and lost the match by 119 runs. England made it into the semi-finals of the tournament.
