Bangladesh and India are facing each other in the 40th match of ICC Cricket World Cup at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday (July 2).

Opting to bat first, India got off a brilliant start, courtesy Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul taking the Bangladeshi bowlers to the cleaners. The duo put up 180 runs for the opening wicket and in the process, Rohit notched up his fourth century of this World Cup. Soumya Sarkar drew the first blood for Bangladesh but not before the Indian vice-captain scored 104 off 92 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.

Soon after Rohit’s dismissal, KL Rahul got out to Rubel Hossain for 92-ball 77. India skipper Virat Kohli once again failed to convert his start into a substantial score as Mustafizur Rahman dismissed him for 26. Mustafizur followed it by removing Hardik Pandya for a silver duck in the same over.

Batting in his second World Cup innings, Rishabh Pant looked in his element. The southpaw added a valuable 40-run stand for the fifth wicket with MS Dhoni to maintain the pace of India’s innings. Shakib Al Hasan sent Pant packing when he was two runs short of his maiden ODI fifty.

In the death overs, Dhoni made a good contribution. The veteran wicketkeeper batsman accumulated 11 runs from the penultimate over before getting out in the last over for 33-ball 35. Rahman conceded only two runs from the 50th over as India finished with 314/9.

Like always, Twitterverse was buzzing during the first half of the match with cricket experts sharing their thoughts.
