Liam Plunkett is confident of doing magic once again for England when the hosts will lock horns against New Zealand for a semi-final place in a World Cup 2019 encounter in Durham on Wednesday, 3rd July.
The veteran paceman was brought into the English squad in place of Moeen Ali and even he did justice to his World Cup recall with impressive figures of 3-55 in his team’s 31-run win over previously unbeaten India at Edgbaston on Sunday, 30th June.
Plunkett told media, “It's nice to have that (unbeaten streak), but I think it's just the way it has worked. If I do play hopefully I can make a difference. People know if you're not playing you're obviously frustrated -- it's about not showing it. How can you get back in the team? By bowling well in practice. Even though I'm 34 can I work on something else tomorrow that could help down the line?”
However, the 34-year-old might not have the raw speed likes of Jofra Archer of Mark Wood, but he is able to do a fantastic job with the ball by using variations in pace and delivery angle in the middle overs.
He further said that England is just three matches away from lifting their maiden World Cup trophy and the entire English squad just wants to keep themselves grounded at the moment.
Plunkett signed off by saying, “It's an amazing journey I've been on and to think that if you win three games of cricket then you win the World Cup. This team is capable of doing just that. But nobody is celebrating like crazy. We know we need to go and win the next game and get the momentum going. It is good we've had our kick up the backside.”
