CWC 2019: Fans criticize Waqar Younis for suggesting that India-England match was fixed

Waqar Younis had alleged that Indian team's loss to England was against sportsman spirit.

Waqar Younis was lambasted for his comments suggesting India-England match was fixed | GettyThe whole of Asia was pinning their hopes on India’s victory in their match against England on June 29 at Birmingham. A win for the Men in Blue meant some breathing space for Pakistan and Bangladesh in their quest for semi-finals qualification.

However, England downed India by 31 runs in an encounter in which the two-time champions looked out of sorts. Despite a century from Rohit and a half-century from Virat Kohli, there was no intention of going after the target in the last 10 overs from MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, once Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant got out.

This has led to many of neighboring fans question Indian team’s motives, however, former Pakistani captain and revered fast bowler Waqar Younis took things a step forward and insinuated that India might have lost the match on purpose to hurt Pakistan and possibly the match was fixed in a cryptic tweet.

Waqar tweeted, “It's not who you are.. What you do in life defines who you are.. Me not bothered if Pakistan gets to the semis or not but one thing is for sure.. Sportsmanship of few Champions got tested and they failed badly #INDvsEND #CWC2019

India’s loss has left Pakistan with the task of beating Bangladesh in their last match and then hope for New Zealand to beat England as well.

Such allegations didn’t sit well with Team India fans and they took the Pakistani great to the task and told him to focus on the performances of his team rather than accusing the Men in Blue’s sportsmanship.
