CWC 2019: Twitter reacts as Shaheen Afridi’s 3/28 restricts New Zealand to 237/6 despite Neesham’s heroics

New Zealand and Pakistan are currently facing each other in the 33rd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Opting to bat first, the Black Caps got off to a terrible start, losing their four batsmen for just 46 runs on the board. While Mohammad Amir drew first blood by removing Martin Guptill (5), Shaheen Afridi wreaked havoc on the Kiwi batters and got rid of Colin Munro (12), Ross Taylor (3) and Tom Latham (1) in quick succession.

Kane Williamson tried to steady the sheep by adding 37 runs for the fifth wicket with Jimmy Neesham, but leg-spinner Shadab Khan cut short the innings of New Zealand skipper (41 off 69 balls) with a beauty.

Afterwards, Colin de Grandhomme arrived at the crease to partner Neesham. Despite being under the pump, the duo batted with intent and stitched a 132-run stand off 128 balls to bail the Kiwis out of trouble. Run out in the 48th over saw the end of the herculean partnership as Grandhomme had to go back to the pavilion for 64.

Nonetheless, Neesham (97 not out off 112 balls) remained firm at one end. He accumulated 20 runs from the last two overs of the innings in the company of Mitchell Santner to take New Zealand to 237/6 in 50 overs.

Like always, Twitterverse was buzzing during the first half of the match with cricket experts opining their views.
