Being one of the two unbeaten teams along with India, New Zealand are enjoying a brilliant run at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 201 in England and Wales, but there is a cause of concern for the Black Caps, as they are distressed over the possible suspension of captain Kane Williamson for slow-over rate in the tournament.

Williamson, who is has been in stunning form with the bat so far in the showpiece event, could face a one-match suspension by the ICC for his team’s slow over-rate in the ongoing World Cup 2019 if the Black Caps fails to maintain an acceptable over-rate in their next game against Pakistan on 26th June.

The stylish batsman has already fined about $800, 20 percent of his match fee of about $4,000, while rest of the team were each fined 10 percent of their match fees (about $400) by match referee David Boon after his team was found one over short of their stipulated target in their thrilling five-run win over the West Indies last weekend in Manchester.

Now, Williamson could face a suspension for a second offense if New Zealand commits another minor over-rate breach during the 50-over tournament in England.

Coach Gary Stead told stuff.co.nz ahead of Pakistan encounter, “We will be talking about it (over rates). It's certainly something we don't want (a Williamson suspension). Our record has been really good and the moment the other night probably got to everyone.”

He added, “It was so noisy and really difficult to hear. When you get in those pressure moments sometimes you need to take a bit of extra time to be clear. The West Indies were slow as well.”

Stead signed off by saying, “It's the first time in my involvement with the team, maybe 20 ODIs, that we've had this. I understand the ICC have things they need to clamp down on. We don't want to lose Kane so it's something we will be chatting about.”
