CWC 2019: Knee injury rules Andre Russell out of the remaining World Cup

Ahead of their next World Cup clash with India, West Indies suffered a huge blow with mercurial all-rounder Andre Russell being ruled out of the quadrennial event owing to knee injury.

Russell, who pulled up a knee injury once again during West Indies’ eight-wicket defeat at the hands of England on June 14, had also missed his team’s last match against New Zealand a couple of days back.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved top-order batsman Sunil Ambris as Russell's replacement. The 26-year-old Ambris will join up with his team in preparation for his side's match against India at Old Trafford on Thursday (June 27).

With one win from six games, West Indies are currently placed at the eighth spot in the World Cup 2019 points table. Apart from India, their remaining fixtures are against Sri Lanka (July 1) and Afghanistan (July 4).

If the Calypso Kings manage to win their remaining matches and the outcome of other clashes go in their favour, they might reach the last four stage.
