Haris Sohail put on a show with the bat as Pakistan registered an emphatic 49-run win over South Africa in their must-win World Cup game at Lord’s on Sunday (June 23).

Haris, who replaced Shoaib Malik in Pakistan’s playing XI, smashed 89 off just 59 balls to help his team post 308/7 on the board. Coming into bat at No. 5 in the 31st over, the southpaw attacked right from the outset and struck 9 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.

He was also named the Player-of-the-Match for his herculean effort. But as per a journalist present at the post-match press conference, Haris Sohail looked exhausted during his stay at the crease and should have scored his century.

"Good, splendid knock from Haris but one thing was visible, he stepped in after 30th over, after spending 60-70 minutes, last over he could not make century as well... he had 3 wickets in hand," the reporter explained to Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur.

"In the last 3 overs...you made only 20 runs, what is the problem? He looked exhausted," he further added.

Arthur, however, was in no mood to take the criticism as he felt Sohail’s knock was one best he has ever seen. He also urged the journalist to write something positive for a change.

With two wins from six games, Pakistan is now at the seventh spot in the points table. Their remaining fixtures are against New Zealand (June 26), Afghanistan (June 29) and Bangladesh (July 5). If the Men in Green manage to win their listed matches and the outcome of other clashes go in their favour, the 1992 champions can reach the last four stage.
