New Zealand beat West Indies by 5 runs in a high scoring thriller at Old Trafford in Manchester and registered their fifth win of this World Cup while West Indies suffered their fourth loss.

Earlier West Indies won the toss and opted to field first and Sheldon Cottrell gave them a perfect start by dismissing both Martin Guptill and Colin Munro for golden ducks in the first over itself. Inform Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor started rebuilding work and continued to score runs at a good rate and added 160 runs for the third wicket. Chris Gayle dismissed Ross Taylor for 69 runs and broke this stand. Williamson continued to score runs for fun and brought up his second consecutive World Cup hundred.

He changed his gears and played some good shots and got out after scoring 148 runs. In the end, Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme's cameos helped New Zealand to post 291/8 on the board. Sheldon Cottrell took 4 wickets for West Indies.

In reply West Indies also had a poor start and lost Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran off Trent Boult bowling and reduced to 20/2 in the 7th over. Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer counter attacked and added 122 runs for the third wicket. Both the batsmen also brought up their fifties. Lockie Ferguson dismissed Hetmyer for 54 runs and triggered the collapse and in next 5 overs, West Indies lost 4 more wickets and reduced to 164/7 from 142/2. Carlos Brathwaite got set and kept scoring runs and added 47 runs with Kemar Roach and 34 runs with Cottrell and brought West Indies back into the match. In the final three overs, West Indies needed 33 runs and Carlos Brathwaite scored 25 of them in Henry's over and the equation came to 8 runs off 12 balls with 1 wicket in the hand.

Brathwaite brought up his maiden ODI ton and he wanted to finish the match with a six but couldn't cross the boundary line and Trent Boult took a good catch and thus West Indies bowled out for 286 runs in 49 overs and lost the match by just 5 runs.
