About a month ago, Rishabh Pant was disappointed as he wasn’t one of the fifteen in India’s original World Cup 2019 squad. This week has been pretty special for him as he was called up to the squad, and, he got to appear on Chahal TV.

The young left-hander talked about his dream of playing the World Cup, the motivation he got after being left out of the squad initially and his mother’s reaction hearing his son’s call up.

Pant said, “When I wasn't selected (for the World Cup in the original squad) I thought I did not do too things right and I became even more positive. I worked harder when I was not selected. Then I did well in the IPL and kept practicing.

Like every other cricketer, Pant’s dream was to play a World Cup tournament for Team India. After the initial snub, he worked even harder to improve his skills.

Everyone (in the team) has only dream: to help India win the World Cup. As a kid, I always dreamt of playing at least 1 World Cup and wanted to do well for the country. I am very happy with the call-up,” he said.

When Shikhar Dhawan got injured and it was evident that he will not be able to play for at least a couple of weeks, Pant was called up to practice with the rest of the team in case he was needed to replace the opener. Pant was with his mother when he received the call and he told her the news before anybody else.

When I was called as back-up for Shikhi bhai, my mom was with me and I told her before anyone else. She went straight to the temple.. she was very happy,” Pant said.

BCCI tweeted a teaser of the video:
