The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced that Shikhar Dhawan wouldn’t be able to take further part in showpiece event owing to his broken left thumb which will remain in a cast till mid-July.

Tendulkar took social media to express his disappointment and said he expects the southpaw will return even stronger. For Dhawan’s replacement Rishabh Pant, Sachin said youngster won’t get a bigger platform than this to showcase his talent.

Tendulkar post read: “Feel for you Shikhar. You were playing well & to be injured in the middle of such an important tournament is heartbreaking. I’m sure you’ll come back stronger than ever. Rishabh you’ve been playing well & there can’t be a bigger platform to express yourself. Good luck!

Dhawan’s absence will be a big blow for Indian side as the southpaw hit his stride against Australia. Also, he has been leading run-scorer for India in the last three ICC events.

Rishabh Pant wasn’t included in India’s original 15 men squad for World Cup but now has been called as a replacement for Shikhar Dhawan. He along with Ambati Rayadu was named as standbys when the original squad was announced.

Pant has so far played five ODI’s since his debut in October last year and averages 23.25, he was part of India’s squad during the home series against Australia. However, selectors opted for Dinesh Karthik’s experience ahead of Pant when they named the 15 men squad.
