Despite a couple of injury woes, former skipper Sourav Ganguly reckons the Indian team is so strong that it will easily qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.

On Wednesday (June 19), opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan got ruled out of the showpiece event due to fracture in his left thumb while seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is set to miss the next few games, having sustained a hamstring injury against Pakistan at Old Trafford on Sunday (June 16).

Bhuvneshwar had to leave the field after just 2.4 overs and all-rounder Vijay Shankar completed his spell. Rishabh Pant has replaced Dhawan in the squad whereas Mohammad Shami, who is yet to play at the World Cup, likely to replace Bhuvi in the next match against Afghanistan on Saturday (June 22).

"It's a blow but they beat Pakistan comprehensively. So they are in good form. I hope Shikhar recovers well and recovers soon," Ganguly quoted as saying by PTI.

"Injuries are part and parcel nobody has control on it. Hope others come and do well. I thought Vijay Shankar did exceptionally well with the ball in Bhuvi's absence. This is a good Indian team and they will make it to the semis and we will see what happens," he added.

In Dhawan's absence, KL Rahul scored a fifty in India's comprehensive 89-run win over Pakistan. The Men in Blue have seven points from four matches thus far. Apart from Pakistan, they have beaten South Africa and Australia while their match against New Zealand was washed out last week.

"India have looked the best in the World Cup so far, then England and Australia," Ganguly concluded.
