New Zealand is taking on South Africa in Match 25 of World Cup 2019 this Wednesday (June 19) at Edgbaston.

Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first considering the overcast conditions around after heavy rains and wet outfield delayed the start by one and a half hour. The game was reduced to 49 overs per side.

South Africa lost its opener Quinton de Kock very early for just 5 after Kiwi pacer Trent Boult clean bowled him. Senior pros Hashim Amla and skipper Faf du Plessis stitched a second-wicket stand of 50 runs before Faf got dismissed off speedster Lockie Ferguson on 23.

Amla, though, carried on for a fine half-century (55). But the great right-hander departed soon after that. He was scalped by left-arm spinner  Mitchell Santner. No.4 Aiden Markram (38) batted quite well. However, he also failed to convert the start and fell against all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme. Kiwi bowlers kept a tight leash at the run-rate in tough conditions for batting.

Proteas needed a partnership and they got it from the duo of Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller. They batted together very well for 72 runs. Miller soon got out, though. He was dismissed on 36.

Dussen continued for a solid fifty (67*). He tried to give the innings the late flourish it required. Unfortunately, Andile Phehlukwayo got out for a duck at the other end. Chris Morris also scored 6*. South Africa finished with a fighting but not intimidating total of 241/6 after 49 overs.

For New Zealand, Matt Henry (0/34), Trent Boult (1/63), Lockie Ferguson (3/59), Colin de Grandhomme (1/33), Mitchell Santner (1/45) delivered fine spells.
