Eoin Morgan put a brutal batting exhibition during England’s World Cup 2019 clash with Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday (June 18).

The English skipper played a jaw-dropping innings of 148 in just 71 deliveries to help his team pile up a mammoth 397/6 on the board. During his carnage on Afghanistan bowlers, Morgan also created the world record for hitting most number of sixes in an ODI innings. His knock was studded with 17 sixes apart from 4 fours. In reply, Afghanistan could only muster 247/8 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Aside from Morgan and England’s dominance, the match also witnessed a hilarious incident. During the 32nd over of first innings, the England captain failed to connect a delivery from his Afghan counterpart, Gulbadin Naib. The ball hit Morgan’s body and bounced a little further away.

Subsequently, Morgan thought of stealing a quick single but then decided against it and turned back to return to his crease. While the southpaw was returning to the crease, Naib tried to take the bat out of his hand and blocked his way, almost as if to give fielder Najibullah Zadran time to come in and run Morgan out.

Here’s the video:

Luckily for England, no harm was done as Morgan made his way back into the crease. Seemingly embarrassed with his act, Naib then picked up Morgan’s bat and handed it to him. The England skipper appeared to hold no hard feelings either as he gave thumbs up to his partner at the other end.
