CWC 2019: England’s Jason Roy aims for a return against arch-rivals Australia on June 25

Roy tore his left hamstring in the match against West Indies.

England opener Jason Roy | GettyEngland opener Jason Roy didn’t have the best match against West Indies some days back, as he suffered a torn hamstring in his left leg and didn’t come out to bat. As his team faces Afghanistan on June 18, 2019, Roy is currently preparing himself for a return in a big-ticket match.

June 25 will see England take on Australia at the Lord’s ground and the 28-year-old Roy is confident of returning to action against the arch-rivals. "I did it in the West Indies and it was a lot worse. It could be way worse -- the scan told me it's minimum 10 days. We've got to assess it as we go along," Roy said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Roy has had a good tournament so far with a fifty against South Africa and a commanding 153 against Bangladesh. Hs only blemish is a failure versus Pakistan, the only match England has lost in the World Cup so far.

Speaking about his plans to return, Roy said, "We're targeting Australia but we'll see how this week goes. If this week goes to plan, then Australia. If not, then who knows. Hamstrings are such a grey area."

England captain Eoin Morgan is aware of the importance of Roy at the top of the batting order and said, "I certainly believe Jason will play again in this tournament. He's out of the next two games, so we'll see how he pulls up after that. He's obviously a huge part of what we've been doing. He's in the best form of his life, so he's very important."
