CWC 2019: "Pls don't use bad words for the players", Amir calls for fans' support after India loss

Pakistani fans and media have been brutal with their criticism of players ever since the defeat to arch-rivals.

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir on Monday (June 18) asked fans to not lose faith on his team or be over-critical of its game after the 89-run loss (DLS method) to arch-rivals India in the ongoing World Cup at Old Trafford.

Pakistan conceded a mammoth 336/5 before responding with only 212/6 in a rain-curtailed encounter to suffer its seventh consecutive defeat versus the neighbours in World Cup history. The result led to a massive uproar amidst fans, who then took jibes and even abused players including skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.

"Pls don't use bad words for the players, yes u guys can criticise our performance we will bounce back InshAllah we need ur support (sic)," wrote Amir, who bowled a fine spell of 3/47 in the game, over Twitter.

Pakistan players' intent and fitness levels were questioned by fans as pictures of them allegedly socialising hours before the India match went viral online. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, rubbished such reports, stating Sarfaraz Ahmed's men did not violate any curfew.

Images of Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim and Imam-ul-Haq socialising at a Manchester pub went viral too.

Also, Malik's wife and India tennis star Sania Mirza was dragged into the narrative as she joined them. The couple later responded to the critics, with Malik saying it's sad he has to clarify things about his personal life even after having served the nation for close to 20 years. He also clarified that the videos were from June 13 and not 15.

"When will Pak media be accountable for their credibility by our courts?! Having served my country for +20 years in Intl Cricket, it’s sad that I have to clarify things related to my personal life. The videos are from 13th June and not 15th (sic)," he wrote on social media.
