Veteran Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik on Monday (June 17) slammed the country's media for alleging that he and other players were out partying and smoking sheesha, hours before the all-important World Cup 2019 clash against India in Manchester.

The Men in Blue thrashed Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method) on Sunday (June 16) and also extended their winning streak to 7-0 against the arch-rivals in the World Cup history. Ever since the defeat, Sarfaraz Ahmed and company are facing the wrath of Pakistani fans on social media.

More than their performances, Pakistani players' fitness came under the scanner after a series of photos and videos emerged on social media, showing certain members of the team allegedly socializing past curfew.

In an angry tweet, Malik clarified that the clips doing rounds were from June 13 and not the night before the match.

"When will Pak media be accountable for their credibility by our courts? Having served my country for +20 years in international cricket, it's sad that I have to clarify things related to my personal life. The videos are from 13th June and not 15th," he wrote, further attaching the Pakistan Cricket Board’s official statement in the post.

Malik, who scored a golden duck against India, also urged the media to not drag his and his teammates’ personal lives into “petty” discussions.

"On behalf of all athletes I would like to request media and people to maintain respect levels in regards to our families, who should not be dragged into petty discussions at will. It's not a nice thing to do," he tweeted.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already made it clear that no player had violated the curfew timings set by the team management.

"The videos and photographs that went viral (on social media) are from two days before the match. The day before the match against India, all the players were in their hotel rooms by curfew time," the spokesperson was quoted as saying by the Dawn.
