After being ignored for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood on Tuesday, 11th June, said he is trying to stay away from the prestigious event as much as he can.

Hazlewood, who failed to make it to Australia's 15-member squad for the World Cup 2019, is now all set to travel with the Australia 'A' squad to England for the one-day and four-day matches to stake his claim for the upcoming Ashes 2019 to be played from August.

As per reports in ESPNCricinfo, Hazlewood said, “I haven't watched too much, to be honest. I've seen the scores but I'm trying to stay away from it as much as I can. It's pretty tough.

He continued, “It will be harder to avoid when I get over there but it's not been too bad in Australia, you've got the footy on all the time and it doesn't start until late so you can avoid it but when I get to England it might be a bit different.”

Meanwhile, Hazelwood was injured when the national selectors announced the World Cup squad, though, the paceman has admitted that the time frame was really tight but he would have been ready for the 12th edition of the World Cup 2019.

He further explained, “There are a few different opinions on that but I was always in the place where I was going to play one of the warm-up games in England, against Sri Lanka or England. That was always the goal, building up the workload for that game but, yeah, it was pretty tight and a big tournament to go into with not much cricket and that's how the selectors saw it.”

Hazelwood signed off by saying, “I was always confident of playing the role but the focus is now on the Ashes, this Australia A tour and getting out of it what I need to be ready. I'm just itching to play now.”
