Team India beat defending champions Australia by 36 runs at Kennington Oval in London and registered their second win of CWC 2019 while Australia suffered their first loss.

Earlier on a slow dry wicket India won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave a steady start and added only 40 odd runs in first 10 overs and after getting set they changed their gears and started playing big shots. Both the batsmen also brought up their fifties. Rohit Sharma got out after scoring 57 runs. Shikhar Dhawan continued to attack and brought up his 17th ODI hundred and along with Virat Kohli added 93 runs for the second wicket and set the platform for a big score.

Hardik Pandya joined Virat Kohli and both the batsmen smashed all Aussie bowlers. Virat Kohli scored 82 runs while Pandya played 48 runs knock. In the end, the cameos from MS Dhoni and KL Rahul helped India to finish on 352/5.

In reply, Australia too started off slowly and added only 48 runs in the first 10 overs. Aaron Finch smashed Hardik Pandya for 19 runs and looked in good touch but a good fielding effort from Kedar Jadhav ran him out. David Warner was struggling for timing and brought up his fifty in 70 oddballs and later got out after scoring 56 runs off 84 balls. Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja accelerated and kept Australia in the match but both batsmen couldn't convert their innings into a big one.

In the last 10 overs, Australia needed 110 odd runs and five wickets were in hand. Glenn Maxwell hit a few boundaries but Yuzvendra Chahal sent him back to pavilion for 28 runs. Alex Carey played some great shots and brought up his fifty in 25 balls but he didn't get enough support from the other end and on the final ball of the match Australia got all out for 316 runs and lost the match by 36 runs.
