In the third match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, New Zealand will take on Sri Lanka at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff today.

Both the teams will look to start their World Cup campaign on a winning note but given their recent performance and form New Zealand is in a better position. In the warm-up matches, New Zealand beat India but lost to West Indies while Sri Lanka lost both their warm-up matches.

New Zealand have a balanced team and most of their key players like Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, and Trent Boult are in good form but Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Mat Henry, Lockie Ferguson couldn't impress in the warm-up games. Though they are the proven performances and can't ask for a better opponent than Sri Lanka to regain their form.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka has been struggling in ODIs for a long time and seeing their performance with bat and ball it is going to be tough for them to turn things around. They have to play as a collective unit to put up a good fight against top sides. Captain Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews need to convert their starts into big scores and Thisara Perera and De Silva have to play finishers role perfectly. In the bowling Lasith Malinga will be the key and Nuwan Pradeep, Jeevan Mendis, Suranga Lakmal will play supporting roles.
