Pakistan batsman Asif Ali left for England on Saturday (May 25) to rejoin country's 15-man World Cup squad after the funeral of his 19-month-old daughter Dua Fatima.

The little girl took her last breath on Monday (May 20) having fought a painful battle with stage IV cancer and a long run of treatment in the USA. She was buried in the Punjab province city of Faisalabad on Thursday (May 24).

"I want to remember Dua Fatima as a warrior. She was my strength and inspiration. The fragrance of her memories is going to stay with me forever," tweeted Asif himself. "I again request you all to pray for the soul of my princess. Thanks again for being there for me."

Before leaving UK, Asif had struck two half-centuries, including a career-best of 52 in the third ODI at Bristol, during recently concluded five-match ODI series against England, which Pakistan lost 4-0.

The right-hand batsman couldn't take part in Pakistan's first official warm-up game versus Afghanistan on May 24 in Bristol. But is expected to feature in the next one with Bangladesh on May 26 in Cardiff.

Asif, who wasn't earlier part of the preliminary squad, also urged fans to continue supporting Pakistan as it looks forward to a very tough campaign in the World Cup, starting with a face-off with West Indies at Trent Bridge on May 31.

"We as a team will be in need of your prayers and unconditional support," he added.
