Former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh believes Virat Kohli, the current Indian captain, is the best ODI batsman going into the World Cup 2019.

Virat, arriving in what will be his third consecutive 50-over ICC World Cup in England and Wales, with all three major ICC awards earlier in the year and 10,843 runs at an average of 59.6, including 41 centuries, across 227 ODIs, is definitely reigning supreme on top of everyone else.

"Definitely Virat Kohli. He’s No.1." Waugh told cricket.com.au, before picking England’s Jos Buttler as the second-best ODI batsman at the moment. Buttler struck an incredible 50-ball hundred versus Pakistan in Southampton earlier this month, following his 77-ball 150 against the West Indies at St Lucia in March.

"Jos Buttler, I’d have him at No.2 in the top three," Waugh added and then included Australia's explosive opener David Warner in the list as his third-best ODI batsman at the moment.

Warner, who has just finished an outstanding IPL season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 692 runs at an average of 69.20 and strike-rate of 143.87, including eight half-centuries and a ton, will be making his international return at the World Cup following a 12-month ban for proven involvement in last year's ball-tampering incident.

Waugh considered current Australian leader Aaron Finch for the third position in this list as well, but eventually gave the nod to Warner.

"Aaron Finch at his best is right up there, so is David Warner. (But) I’ll go with David Warner," he concluded.
