CWC 2019: Team India hit with injury scare as Vijay Shankar leaves practice session midway

India to play New Zealand in warm up game on May 25.

Vijay Shankar | GettyIt seems that the curse of injuries has hit the ICC World Cup 2019 with players getting hurt right, left and center. Usman Khawaja got hit on his head, Eoin Morgan hurt his finger, Isuru Udana gets hit on his right hand while bowling in the warmup game against South Africa.

Now add the Indian team to the list as well, with Vijay Shankar getting injured during the practice session ahead of the first warm-up game against New Zealand on May 25. Vijay was hit on his right forearm while attempting a pull against left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed, who is among the four quicks traveling with the Indian squad as a net bowler and left the training session midway.

Vijay, who was part of the second group of batsmen alongside MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya, immediately walked back to the dressing room carrying two bats in his left hand. BCCI has not released an official word on his condition or availability for the warmup game.

On the other hand, Kedar Jadhav was seen practicing on both days with team physiotherapist Patrick Farhart shadowing him. It was in his positive assessment of Jadhav’s shoulder injury, was Jadhav retained in the Indian squad. On Thursday, Jadhav took some throwdowns without batting in the main nets. However, on Friday, he did the complete drill, including some fielding practice, before wrapping it by batting in the nets.

Jadhav, though, is likely to sit out of the warm-up game against New Zealand. If Vijay recovers, he is set to bat at No.4, the position MSK Prasad, Indian chairman of selectors, had said the allrounder was ideal for while announcing the World Cup squad.
