CWC 2019: Sri Lanka face early blows as Avishka Fernando and Isuru Udana get injured during warm-up match

Sri Lanka have two injury worries on their hands even before the tournament officially begins.

The Sri Lankan team while playing the warm-up match against the Proteas, faced a couple of injury blows as opener Avishka Fernando and bowler Isuru Udana were taken off the field

As the World Cup 2019 is just around the corner, each team is gearing up to start their campaign on a high. Every team will have two warm-up matches each before the tournament begins on May 30. Sri Lanka play against South Africa on May 24 and will take on defending champions Australia on May 27.

The Sri Lankan team while playing the warm-up match against the Proteas on Friday, faced a couple of injury blows as opener Avishka Fernando and fast bowler Isuru Udana were taken off the field.

Fernando while fielding in the match against South Africa landed awkwardly and had to be taken off the field. The physios were called on, and after receiving some treatment, Fernando attempted to walk off, but a stretcher was required to take him off from the field.

Udana on the other hand was injured while taking a difficult return catch of Chris Morris. The ball was struck powerfully by Morris and the pacer put his hand up in reflex partly to defend himself and partly to take a catch but ended up hurting himself on the wrist.

The Proteas posted a mammoth total of 338 at the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs. The Sri Lankan side will be chasing 339 to win their first warm-up match ahead of the showpiece event and gain some confidence.

Sri Lanka will begin their World Cup 2019 campaign on June 1 as they take on New Zealand.
