CWC 2019: Team India to wear orange as secondary jersey color in ICC World Cup

India will play its first game against South Africa on June 5.

Team India's new jersey for the World Cup unveiled before the Australia seriesThe Indian team has touched down in London for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, where they will start their campaign against South Africa on June 5, after playing a couple of warmup games against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

All the participating team unveiled their jerseys for the ICC World Cup 2019, India had done so before their home limited-overs series against Australia before the IPL 2019 began. However, now it has come to light that the new Blue colored jersey won't just is the only color that Team India will be wearing throughout the tournament.

As the International Cricket Council (ICC) is introducing home and away kits in the upcoming tournament, Team India is scheduled to wear a new-look jersey in Orange color. The Virat Kohli-led team will debut the jersey in their matches against Afghanistan and England.

ICC has planned to introduce the concept of home and away kits given that three teams including India have Blue colored uniforms. England being the hosts, they will continue to sport their newly-launched kit, which is similar to the 1992 World Cup. This means other teams who sport blue have to change their colors for matches involving England.

The yet-to-be-released kit will see India wear a darker blue in the front, with orange dominating the sleeves and the back, as reports of New Indian Express. India, who have traditionally sported blue, will continue to wear that in other group matches. Against Sri Lanka, they will take the field in this as they are listed as the home team for this match.

The rule will also see South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh wearing alternative colored jerseys given that they all have green colored uniforms. While Pakistan has the luxury of sporting their much-favored green right through the tournament as they are listed as the home team for the matches against Bangladesh and South Africa, the other two have to wear yellow as their away kit.

The New Indian Express reveals that there were talks of including an Orange color dominated jersey when India's apparel sponsor Nike introduced a new edition for the home series against Australia. But the move was shelved and this time with the ICC floating the idea, India has opted for orange.

The only teams to wear their traditional colored jerseys throughout the tournaments are Australia, New Zealand and West Indies --- by virtue of wearing yellow, black and maroon.
