Ganguly believes that Pakistan will qualify for the semi-final stage of the World Cup.

IND v PAK, Champions Trophy 2017

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly recently finished a successful stint with Delhi Capitals as their advisor. After the IPL, everyone is looking forward to the Cricket World Cup commencing from 30 May. At this stage, all the cricket pundits and fans have come up with their favourites to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Ganguly has Pakistan as one of his favourites to qualify for the semis. He backs his expectations saying that the Pakistan team performs well in England. While talking to PTI, he said, “Pakistan’s record in world tournaments in England is remarkable. They won the Champions Trophy two years ago, they won the 2009 World T20 in England.

Pakistan always play well in England. You see the last game in England. England got 374 and Pakistan just lost by 12 runs. They also beat England in England in Test matches there because of their bowling lineup,” he added.

The biggest clash of any ICC event, India v Pakistan, is scheduled on 16 June in Manchester. So far, India have won all the six matches against Pakistan in ICC ODI World Cups. Currently, India are ranked second and Pakistan are sixth in the ICC ODI Team Rankings, but players from both sides are in form.

On his opinion on the result of the big game, he said, “I don’t believe in records. Both of them will have to play well on that particular day. India will be a very good side. They will be very hard to beat. Team which has the likes of Kohli, Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan can’t be weak.

He was also asked about the comparison between his team that reached the ICC World Cup 2003 Final and the current squad for ICC World Cup 2019. He said, “Both the teams are of different generations. We played the final in 2003. I hope they play the final and win it.
